April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball player in the US she is part of the elite set of women who've been awarded medals at multiple Olympics. In Tokyo over the next few days she will attempt to claim her third Olympic medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross wants to achieve something more than just her first Olympic medal. At 39, this could be her final chance to do so. Nevertheless she is confident that top honors are firmly at hand. If we perform at our very best or even play really well, I believe we'll get that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. In addition, I'm hoping to have some chance. Ross was born in 1982, and grew up in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began playing sports during her time at Newport Harbor High. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. In addition to playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and ran track while professional athletes. As a finalist in her sport she clearly stood out. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter on the volleyball court according to her university bio. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. She also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Ross and Klineman started their partnership in 2017, however Ross was an established player on the beach long before. She has been an active player on the beach for many years. In fact, Ross won several tournaments, including one with a legendary volleyball player. Between 2007 to 2013 she teamed alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently worked as Klineman's coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the world of professional sports, winning the world championship in 2009 together. In 2012, the pair were awarded silver medals at the London Olympics. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team together with Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. It was fate that had them. Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The duo went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross participated in the Trojans of USC in her college years after she graduated high school. Ross's time in the Trojans was outstanding. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA freshman of the year recognition and earned an All-American. In addition, she helped the Trojans get to in the Final Four. During her sophomore season, she experienced a devastating personal loss but still managed to make it back as an All-American. The last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans to the top of the mountain netting three consecutive championships at the national level. In her own way, she had established herself as an all-time great receiving in 2003 and 2004 the Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross didn't see her daughter climb to the top in the world of beach volleyball. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Margie has always been a source of inspiration to her both in and out on the beach.
